Food, Family and a Lifelong Passion

For Chef Hoang, cooking has always been about more than food. It is about family, memory and bringing people together around the table.

Hoang grew up in Vietnam as the youngest of ten children. His mother was a gifted cook who often prepared food for family gatherings and neighbourhood celebrations. Watching her transform simple ingredients into meals shared by many gave him an early love for Vietnamese cooking.

His passion became a career after he met his wife in 2008. Wanting to cook food she would truly enjoy, Hoang began studying cookery and graduated in 2014. In 2015, his journey brought him from Saigon to Australia.

Here, he continued developing his craft at respected restaurants including Vue de Monde and Rococo. These experiences introduced him to new techniques and different cuisines, while strengthening his appreciation for the Vietnamese flavours that shaped him.

Hoang Phat is the result of that journey.

Today, Chef Hoang devotes himself to the restaurant and the community it serves. While others take time away, he is often still in the kitchen — preparing broth, testing dishes and making sure every guest is well looked after.

His greatest reward is seeing Vietnamese families enjoy the flavours they remember, and watching new friends discover Vietnamese food for the first time.

At Hoang Phat, you will find traditional comfort food, generous portions and a little creativity: from our 12-hour marrow bone broth and King-Size Pho to Southern-style grilled pork rice, boneless chicken feet salad and house fusion specialties.
